Your CD is “not my cup of tea.” That’s OK! Indie Music Insight

Recently, a blues “purist” who I like and respect said (apologetically) about our debut CD release “Prosperity Street”:
“It’s just not my cup of tea.”

Great! It’s honest, and that’s cool.
Creative projects such as music, painting, film, photography, sculpture, etcetera are best, in my opinion, when they are true to themselves. That’s all I tried to do with the record and feel its an accurate representation, musically, of who I am.

Read on and check out the MUSIC, maybe it’s your “cup of tea”!>>>

I made a conscious decision…
…to put many styles of music on the record because that’s who I am. It doesn’t fit neatly into any specific musical category, but reflects the music I love and songs that have shaped my life. I did make it with the listener in mind, and have had many encouraging comments about the CD. I’ve also been around long enough to take a little negativity in stride.

I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, BUT THAT’S OK! Thanks for listening… groove on.

I posted the above comment on the Trace Relations Band Facebook Page, then realized this ties nicely to last week’s post.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading this one>

  1. Randy Combs says:

Music taste has and always will be subjective. People get locked into a “genre mentality” and if something falls outside that sound, they reject it. C’est la vie.

Nothing in life is 100%. I don’t care about those who don’t like our music; I can make it available to those who do. It might only be a few…a few hundred…or thousand. Regardless, we’ll write to please ourselves and if anyone wants to come along for the ride – great!

Tracy – you’ve turned out some excellent music of which you’ll always be proud – and really – at the end of the day – isn’t that what matters?

  2. Tracy Ready says:

Thanks for the kind comment Randy, nice to know and hear from so many people who feel as I do about this… As Louis Armstrong said “There are 2 kinds of music, the good and the bad. I play the good kind” …the listener can decide all by themselves what’s “good” or “bad” – clear thinking people don’t need someone else’s opinion to decide what they like. As musicians all we do is try our best, given the skills and talents we are blessed with, and try to get it to as many ears as possible.

As you said (and I thank you for this) “…you’ve turned out some excellent music of which you’ll always be proud – and really – at the end of the day – isn’t that what matters?”

    YES. cheers, Trace
