3 Excellent Online Resources for Indie Musicians

Running a full marketing campaign for your band can get pretty expensive. Luckily, there are many online tools that are equipped to help D-I-Y musicians promote their music with minimal budget. Below are three of the most popular websites that indie musicians from all over the world are using to their advantage, with measurable results.

“Of course, for any venture to become successful, it takes WORK, consistent effort over time. If you don’t believe in your music enough to devote time to promote it, it is unlikely that you will attract many fans, or offers of collaboration.” – Trace

Top 7 Posts: Balancing Creativity, Business and Social Media

As a writer, photographer and Internet geek, it’s always thought provoking for me to look at Google Analytics on this site. Each week, this tool reveals which posts have gotten the most traffic, causing me to think about the content, and which topics are resonating with readers.

all about these things....

all about these things….

My life as a freelancer in video production, music and marketing is a constant balancing act, between time spent on speculative creative projects, paying clients, social media interaction and evaluating new technologies. I enjoy all of it, but it can get overwhelming to the psyche. That’s why I write about these topics, it helps me to further explore, understand and interact with others who also face similar challenges in life.

I also like to laugh (it’s important!), so I am glad to see #4 “Church Ladies with Typewriters” made the list…

Here’s the list (with links) of the Top 7 Posts from The Social Freelancer ™ blog this week:

Reaching Out: Why Good Content is not Enough

A thought this morning: “Content is King” is a myth.
From my earliest foray into social media and blogging, I have heard the “Content is king” line and believed it. It makes sense that if you don’t have anything interesting or informative to say, few will pay attention. Now I see that having great content is important, but it’s just one of the keys to the puzzle. I wish that merely posting inspired writing, photographs, quotes and other popular content were the keys to attracting millions of eyeballs to this blog, but alas, this is not so.

Is your "stuff" being seen?

What’s this? New Site for Trace Productions: Will you “kick the tires”?

As a self-employed, sole proprietor business owner, your website is your BRAND, your public face to the world.
Designing a site, or updating (in my case) is an important undertaking and one that I have found to be daunting. I kept looking at the primary site for my production business, Trace Productions, feeling embarrassed that much of the content had not been updated in 10 years or more. In that time, I have added new skills and services (media consultation, social media management) to my client offerings.

Stoked about the new site!

Guilty! Every Monday I check Google Analytics to see which articles on this blog are receiving the most attention on the Net. You could call it an obsession, but this activity does serve a writing purpose. It’s a clue as to what articles are resonating most with readers, and isn’t that what writing is all about?
Today, February 4, 2013, these are the top five. I’ll be updating this post one year from now. It will be interesting to see what topics remain in high volume, and what new topics have emerged by then.
