The allure of a Texas river… Photography

Ideas, like large rivers, never have just one source.- Willy Ley
I have always been drawn to rivers. Near them, I can be alone with my thoughts and yet still connected with the rest of the planet. It’s all tied to my youth, and much time spent splashing around in streams, skipping stones and camping with my family, most often near some stretch of serene river.

The feeling of being connected and yet all alone is still with me today, and rivers have become one of my favorite photographic challenges as well.

I have spent much of the last 25 years bouncing back and forth between Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, personally, professionally and musically. In my travels I try to avoid the mind numbing Interstate experience in favor of Texas Highway 281 and the towns and scenes along that path. Recently I took these shots of the Pedernales and Blanco rivers in the Texas Hill Country, compiling a collection of images for a video to the song The Flood by Trace Relations.

The Thing About Obstacles: We can’t make them go away…

The thing about obstacles is that they will always be there. Sometimes the obstacle is something lurking in the shadows, sometimes they are smack in front of you in a glaring light. No matter how much money we make or power we gain, for most of us, there is a desire for something “more” or something “new.” As long as that desire exists, there will be someone or something in the way, an obstacle to achievement.

Whether you want a greater understanding of God, a new car or just a new pair of shoes, there’s always an obstacle.

Uh oh... small problem... photo courtesy NCWpics.com

Heading to Hong Kong. What Should I See?

The life of a freelance video professional is a strange one, no doubt. It’s “feast or famine” as the old saying goes. Financially, it was a dreadful ending to 2010 and a sluggish awakening of the business starting this year. Now, at last, things are starting to look up (fingers crossed it continues).

Last week I was shooting a health education PR piece on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. This week I am traveling to Hong Kong with my good friend and colleague in the business, Max Warren of Imagemax Productions.

An international trip opportunity doesn’t pop up in my world very often, so it’s quite exciting. Thanks Max!

Visualizing My Bucket List: 5 Places I Must See Before I Kick It

Tracy Ready

“Visualization” is such a trendy word. If I start this post using it you’ll think I am some sort of crystal wearing, tree hugging nut but here goes:
I love to visualize where I might go, what I might do in the future. It helps me keep the present on the right track and gives me goals that I can see in my mind. I relax when I visualize.

“Work hard,” I tell myself and believe that I can achieve many things if I take many small steps. I have tried taking big ones too soon, only to stumble and fall. So that’s what I do, I look for small steps every day to take me towards my goals. Meanwhile I “visualize” places I’d like to see before I leave this earth.

What places do you dream of going to someday? I’d like to hear about them. Here’s my Top 5:

Why Getaways are Good: East Texas Road Trip

Recently, on the spur of the moment, my wife Lauren and I decided to take a one day road trip… somewhere. We do this occasionally (I would say not often enough) for some very simple reasons:

Why the Getaway?
